September Meeting Preview
THE ART of SCRATCHBUILDING!
Structures and the figures to go with them. Sam Swanson from Division 7 will show us how he builds those contest winning models you see in all the magazines. Structure building and kitbashing ideas will fit right in to our series of "hands on" model building presentations. As a bonus we'll learn how to make realistic figures to populate a scene. Two great model building topics in one afternoon. What a deal!
Contest: Make It Cheap ($1, $3, $5)
Chapel 3, Sunday September 21st, 2PM
Were you there?
Mike did it again!
He lined up some great layouts in Indianapolis and with the great box lunch and fantastic weather you can see why these folks were all smiles. I don't know where we're going next summer but I'm reserving my ticket right now. - Bob Fink
STEAM RETURNS TO THE WHITEWATER VALLEY
The Whitewater Valley Railroad is proud to
announce that after two successful visits, steam locomotive Flagg Coal Company #75 will once again return to the historic ex-New York Central Railroad's Whitewater Branch Line.
The Whitewater Valley Railroad will be hosting Flagg Coal #75 starting the weekend of Labor Day 2008 for two weekends of fun. This year's activities are being held exclusively in Historic Metamora, Indiana. To kick off the event on Friday August 29, 2008, a special running of the Laurel Hotel Train to Dinner with Flagg Coal # 75 on the point is scheduled.

Free Magazine?
While print model publications are disappearing (Railmodel Journal joins the ranks of Mainline Modeler and Model Railroading Magazine just in the past year), a new, downloadable FREE magazine has been announced. Model Railroad Hobbyist has announced their intention to have the premier issue ready for January 2009. It will be hobby-vendor advertizing supported and available at no cost to the reader. Sample material is available at their website at http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/. This may be the trend for the future of such publications. We wish them well.
Bylaw Update!
The Board of Governors has made a number of updates and needed corrections to the Division 3 Bylaws. These changes were needed due to changes in the structure of the National and Regional organizations, as well as correcting outdated language.
The changes will be posted in the September and October 2008 issues of the Call Board and will be voted on at the October 2008 meeting.

Maintenance of Way
Did you ever wonder about those stings of orange or yellow machines that occasionally parade down the tracks like so many robotic circus elephants? At our July meting, George Elwood treated us to a slidewhow of all the NS tie replacement equipment that he found working between Dayton and Springfield. The photos show details of each type of machine and George has supplied us with descriptions of the function of all of this stuff. If you missed the meeting, you can find this presentation on his WEBSITE. Scroll down the page to "Tie Replacement".
Help Wanted!
We can't print our own, so we need some assistance in raising funds for the Division.
The Division has offered car kits, car cards, and a number of items over the years in the company store and now we need to continue offering more useful model railroad items. We need a person to act as coordinator of "ways and means" to search out new fund raiser projects that would benefit members. He or she would "brainstorm" project ideas with the BOG and find various sources and prices for these useful products. Working with the Board they would establish the final arrangements and see it through to completion. An experienced purchasing agent or procurement type would be fine but otherwise "no experience" is necessary. Just a genuine desire to get things going, a stick with it communicator and a desire to expand the fun for the whole division. Applicants may apply at any meeting or by a call to any of the officers. We need YOU.
Ready to Work With Foam Roadbed?
Bob Fink has shared his approach to using foam on spline as roadbed. He has prepared some instructions, with photographs in PDF format so you can download and print the sheet. Bob has had a lot of luck with this fast and easy way to build track. Check it out in our Show & Tell section.
Note: The site has undergone a major redesign. The changes should make it easier to find what you want, as well as making it easier to maintain. Please contact me with your suggestions and comments. - Webmaster
