Super Saying

by Brian Petroziello

I want to thank everyone who made the October meeting. It was cold and rainy outside, but warm and dry at the Wright Library's meeting room. We were treated to a terrific clinic by Region President Marty Vaughn. Marty demonstrated his techniques for making rubber molds and casting resin parts. He also gave us an update on the state of the region. Once again the MCR has led the NMRA in achievement certificates earned. Look for a new region project coming out soon. Plans are coming to fruition, and the preliminary drawings are done. Because of the posibility of a comoetitor scooping us, it is being held tightly under wraps, but look for the unveiling soon.

As you read this, the 1999 edition of the train show should be put to bed, but open houses will be going on. We have about 27 layouts open, including several open to the public for the first time. Don’t miss this opportunity to see the Division layouts. No layout is ever really done and this is a good chance to see what’s new on some of your old favorites as well as see the new ones.

The next Division show will be the March edition. The contract has been signed, and the date will once again be the first weekend in March, at Hara of course. The show will be in conjunction with the WHIO baby fair. The show admission will be free, with an access directly from the baby fair. The BOG feels that this will lead to a tremendous boost in attendance. The show will feature layouts and demonstrations only, there will not be any dealers. Bob Fink ably handled the show for it’s first two years, but he will not be doing it this year. We are looking for a new coordinator. If you are interested in directing the show this year, please contact me or any member of the BOG.

It is election time again. We are looking for someone to head the Election Nominating Committee. None of the current elected officials can run again due to the wording of the by-laws, so all three positions will be vacant. We would love to have 2 candidates for Superintendent and Chief Clerk. Now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their Division.

I mentioned in the last Call Board that we are now online at: http://www.netcolony.com/entertainment/raildayton/. I can’t say enough good things about the web site. Every time I visit there, Norm has done something new. If you are web connected this is a great way to get up to the minute information on the Division and upcoming events, e-mail the officers, jump off to other railroad related sites, see photos of local layouts and prototype photos by Division members. We are always looking for new photos to post. So if you have photos of your layout, or prototype photos send them to Norm, electronically or by snail mail.

Look for the current edition of Model Railroading magazine. It contains a feature article by the Division’s own Ray Persing on building his award winning Swanson’s Holler diorama. The photos and article are great, and Ray shares many of his modeling tips.

You too can be a famous author. At least famous in the Division 3 land. Submit an article to Call Board Editor J. Hedge and win the admiration of your family, friends, and other Division Three members.

Ray Persing is now the MCR Contest Chairman, and it is his goal to increase the participation in the Region convention model contests. He is also looking to get more members involved in the judging process. If you are interested in learning the ins and outs of contest judging, see Ray to get apprenticed. At the next region meeting in February, Division Three hopes to submit a bid for the 2002 Region convention. Ray is the Convention Chairman, we have volunteers for most of the functions, but will need more. If you think that you will be able to help, contact Ray or the BOG. We will bring the members up to date on this as it develops.

Until next time, happy modeling.

Superintendent
