Welcome to the new modeling year. I hope everyone had a great summer. I had a chance to get some scenery done, replace and solder some fried throttles, and do some badly needed work on the house. I'm looking forward to the annual scenery blitz to get ready for the November open house. A special thanks on behalf of the Division to Al McClelland. Al gave us an update on the V&O at our July meeting and hosted the Division at an open house afterwards. The V&O just keeps getting better and better, and this was a terrific opportunity to see it first hand.
September will be another special meeting. It will be on the third Saturday of the month, instead of the third Sunday. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Division 3, we will be riding the Whitewater Valley to Metamora and return. We will have a group rate as long as we have 30 people or more. The Group price is $10.00 per adult and $5.00 for children. There is still time to sign up. Simply contact me to make a reservation. The train leaves at 12:01 Indiana time. I would recommend getting there at least one half hour early. You should have a check (or cash) made payable to the Division. The Division will provide a check to the Whitewater Valley. I will pick up the tickets that day and distribute them to the group. We can eat aboard the train and if you wish to bring a cooler, you can leave them on the train while you enjoy the shopping at Metamora. This will be a great chance to get some early Christmas shopping done.
I just received the latest edition of Model Railroading Magazine. There was an excellent MONON layout depicted. The owner of the layout was kept a secret (although, by writing to the magazine, a tour of the layout can be arranged if you are traveling the south). The layout uses car cards and waybills "printed by Al McClelland", and it states that the layout builder got his start as as NMRA member and implied that it was in Division 3. I don't want to blow the owner's attempt at secrecy, but it does have me wondering if any member has a clue as to the identity of the former member.
I understand that many of the former and current members of the Division had a very successful reunion dinner. It would be great to have a report in the Call Board.
The October meeting will be at the Wright Library in Oakwood. It will be a clinic by Marty Vaughn on casting parts with resin. The contest will be rolling stock.
There will be only two more meetings before the November Train Show. We will need many volunteers to help with the door, clinics, merit badge, open houses, and getting the vendors in and out. As always, it is our members who help make this a successful show for the public and the vendors, and it a great way to show off this wonderful hobby of ours.
August 29th will be the next Region meeting in Columbus. This will be the first meeting with new MCR President, Marty Vaughn. There are a lot of items on the agenda. I will give a report in the next Call Board.
I am a lame duck Superintendent (I have had to remind people that it is "lame duck" and not just "lame"). In May a new Superintendent will be taking over. It is time to think about running for Division office. Also we will be calling shortly for a nominating chairman and committee. The Division needs you.
Until next time, happy modeling.
Brian Petoziello
Superintendent
